THE estranged wife of the US president's younger brother wants to write a book about her two decades in the Bush family, pitching her experiences as an insider's view of the powerful clan.
Sharon Bush, who is divorcing Neil Bush, was still in the "early stages" of putting her ideas together, said her spokesman Lou Colasuonno, who confirmed a report in the New York Observer.
"She's finally realised that she will be alone and needs to start a new life to support herself," he said.
"She's got a good story to tell, and she wants to tell it."
Sharon Bush married Neil Bush in 1980, and the couple have three teenage children.
Colasuonno dismissed any notion that the book proposal might be a negotiating tactic in settlement talks between the separated spouses.
"She has done everything she can to save this marriage," he said.
"This is simply the first step of the rest of her life, nothing more and nothing less."
Neil Bush is founder and CEO of the Austin, Texas, software company Ignite Inc.
His lawyer, Richard Flowers Jr, did not immediately return a telephone call for comment today.
Neil Bush served until 1988 as director of Denver-based Silverado Banking, Savings & Loan, which cost taxpayers more than $US1 billion ($1.64 billion) when it collapsed.
He was one of 12 defendants who agreed in 1991 to pay $US49.5 million ($80.95 million) to settle a negligence lawsuit brought by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
Bush denied wrongdoing and was not charged in the grand jury investigation that followed, but the federal government imposed sanctions on him should he ever become involved in any other federally insured savings and loan or bank.
